Regenerative Design

winter semester 2024/25
University of Applied Arts Vienna

(3.8) Regenerative Design Lab at Angewandte

This semester, the IDRV has launched the Regenerative Design Lab, which currently offers an interdisciplinary lecture and discussion series to encourage students from different design fields to rethink their creative practices.

The lab focuses on integrating the principles of nature into design, encouraging participants to challenge conventional approaches in areas such as fashion, communication design, social design, art education, and fine art. Through collaborative discourse, students are not only broadening their theoretical knowledge but also applying these concepts to their ongoing artistic semester or year projects.

The semester’s work will culminate in the experimental traveling exhibition, “Coral Reef. Regenerative Design,” set to open in February at the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade. Curated and scientifically supported by the IDRV, this exhibition will showcase the outcomes of the lab, highlighting the creative interpretations of regenerative design principles by the participants.

As the course progresses, the small, interdisciplinary group continues to engage in intensive discussions and critical reflections, enriching their understanding of design theory while fostering a collaborative learning environment. The lab’s dynamic approach prepares students for the oral examination by encouraging contextualization and application of their artistic work.

Stay tuned for updates on the Coral Reef exhibition and the final outcomes of this semester’s journey into regenerative design.
