Circular Design Rules
A tool for circular craft practice
Available online or as printable PDF (EN | DE)
The Circular Crafts Canvas is designed for artisans, designers and makers who want to shape their practice in a more sustainable, resource-conscious and future-oriented way. It offers an accessible introduction to the principles of the circular economy, specifically adapted to craft-based processes.
At its core, the tool focuses on three strategic perspectives: Slow, Narrow and Close, which are closely connected to the dimensions of time, place and value – concepts deeply rooted in many craft traditions:
SLOW – TIME: How can craft, as a lived cultural practice, offer impulses for a slower and more responsible way of making and living?
NARROW – PLACE: How can craft, as part of a local culture, support circular design and regenerative ways of working?
CLOSE – VALUE: How can craft, as a value-creating practice, lead to products whose worth is preserved over a long period of time?
The canvas invites you to reflect on your own practice. How do I work? What decisions do I make? Where are the potentials for change?
Whether used as a tool for orientation, collaboration or product development, the Circular Crafts Canvas creates space for critical reflection, shared learning and new perspectives.
Available in English and German, online and as a printable PDF worksheet (DE/EN).
