Circular Design Rules
Handbook Circular Economy
Huber-Heim | Dittrich | Schönberg
2026
With the Handbook Circular Economy , editors Huber-Heim, Dittrich, and Schönberg present a a comprehensive reference work. Bringing together the expertise of more than 120 authors, the volume offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective on the transition toward a circular economy, spanning foundational concepts as well as practical pathways for implementation.
The chapter “Design Strategies” was substantially shaped by the IDRV. Ronja Grossar developed the chapter together with Felix Reiterer and Clemens Dus, defining its conceptual orientation. Two contributions resulted from this collaboration: “Design for Circularity” by Clemens Dus and Ronja Grossar outlines the design principles that underpin circular product development, while “Circular Design Rules” by Ronja Grossar and Felix Reiterer presents a structured framework that enables designers and organizations to align products systematically with the requirements of circularity.
Both texts position design as a decisive driver of transformation and demonstrate how choices made in early development phases can establish the conditions for long-lasting products, closed material loops, and resilient value creation systems.
