Co-Creating for a Circular Economy: Challenges and Opportunities

Workshop with Miquel Ballester, product and innovation manager at Fairphone, Amsterdam. Fairphone is one the most advanced makers of mobile telephones worldwide and renowned for social innovations in the supply chain. In a Fairphone design workshop, a notable step-by-step plan was developed for how mobile telephones could be sustainably produced in the future.

In a small group format, using the following questions as a basis, scenarios will be developed around how design can be leveraged as a force to gradually pave the way towards circular economy in the electronic consumer goods sector:

What role does design play in terms of circular economy?
What role do consumers play?
How can products be sustainably designed?
What are the challenges for the dominant economic system to transform itself into a circular economy?
