Circular Design plays a central role on the way to a circular economy. In order to provide stakeholders in the product development process with a simple set of rules for the design of circular products, the IDRV – Institute of Design Research Vienna developed the Circular Design Rules in cooperation with designaustria.

With the kind support of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection and the Vienna Business Agency, a toolkit was developed that includes 9 rules for circular design and a scorecard. With the aim of closing product cycles, the tool provides orientation and shows progress along the way.

CDR is a research project in the framework of the New European Bauhaus Initiative. The rules have been selected from a comprehensive collection of design patterns, which could effectively introduce a positive system change.

At the presentation on 28. September, the Circular Design Rules will be presented for the first time and, in cooperation with the Vienna Business Agency, a framework will be created to show ways of implementing Circular Design strategies in practice.
