IDRV hosting StadtFabrik [City factory]
at MAK DESIGN SPACE, Stubenring 5, 1010 Vienna
from 8.2. 2016
The StadtFabrik is a “real-time” research laboratory for new professional fields with a focus on creative disciplines which aims to discover and highlight future potentials of cities in Digital Modernity. It will continue the approaches of the project 2051: Smart Life in the City, which took place as part of the VIENNA BIENNALE 2015, and further develop the idea of “demonstrators” (participatory experiments throughout the city). In the MAK DESIGN SPACE, the IDRV is running a project office, which is negotiating new strategies for Vienna as a production site as well as new areas and forms of work in an era of urbanization and automation.
The interface between traditional production methods and new digital technologies will be explored, as well as the potential for alternative forms of collaboration and innovation to steer a city toward the future. What kinds of production can be attracted to or brought back to a city? What new topics pertain to urban production? What will work and business life look like in the future? Public discussion forums, presentations of work, and guest workshops are part of the program curated and organized by the IDRV. Its permanent presence and public orientation will allow the StadtFabrik to build awareness and increase demand for products and services created within an urban context. Viennese residents and interested museum visitors are invited to participate in this process.
The public program will be announced here soon.
