A DESIGNER’S TOOLBOX FOR REVOLUTION exhibits, questions, and contextually repositions a range of methods in the working process of designers that are gathered together under the umbrella term of the tool. The playful exhibition architecture – which is entirely made from re-used cardboard – invites visitors to investigate, interact, and immerse themselves in the designer’s toolbox. The contribution from the temporary artists’ collective, which originated at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, discusses a new definition of designing, which, with disarming honesty, not only presents itself as a mock-up, but also counters the solution-oriented, academic notion of design.

The project was developed as part of Harald Gründl’s course on design theory. Together with students from different departments of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, an independent form of discourse was developed. The results will now be presented for the first time during the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK.
